Continuing copying my book reviews from my LinkedIn Amazon widget to my blog. I’ve referenced Winston Churchill a couple of times in this blog and referenced Richard Nixon’s Leaders book in Episode 10: The Dark Side of Creativity.
Leaders, by Richard M. Nixon
Nixon gives a master’s leadership class here, writing about the leaders he personally knew while Vice President and later on: Churchill, de Gaulle, MacArthur, Khrushchev, and many others. I’d start with the last chapter, “In The Arena”, and then go back and read the entire book from the beginning. Nixon deals with political leaders, but there’s a lot to be gained for business leaders, too.
We Shall Not Fail: The Inspiring Leadership of Winston Churchill, by Celia Sandys
This is in the genre of leadership books that’s part history, part biographical, and part leadership treatise (“to be a better leader, do like X did and do …”). I really liked this book, as Churchill is a larger than life iconic hero, but I’d start with Goleman et al’s Primal Leadership and Nixon’s Leaders first, and then make my way to this book and others like it.
George Washington’s Leadership Lessons: What the Father of Our Country Can Teach Us About Effective Leadership and Character, by James Rees and Stephen Spignesi
This is obviously a copy-and-paste of my review for the “We Shall Not Fail” Churchill leadership book…

I picked this book up at the gift shop at Mount Vernon in Virginia…highly recommend touring there, and this book is a nice little memento.
